MALAYSIA today reported a record high of 61 new Covid-19 deaths, with 711 patients in intensive care units (ICU).
The previous record was set on May 20, when 59 people succumbed to the coronavirus.
Active cases meanwhile stood at 60,018, said health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The total number of deaths nationwide now stands at 2,309.
The oldest among the deceased today was a 98-year-old woman who died at the Penang Hospital.
Meanwhile, the youngest person on the list to succumb to Covid-19 was a 27-year-old man who died at the Malacca Hospital. The deceased also suffered from diabetes.
There were six brought in dead cases today, five of whom were senior citizens.
Selangor reported the highest number of fatalities with 16 cases, followed by Johor with 11.
Malacca and Penang reported six deaths each.
Other states that reported fatalities were Kuala Lumpur (five), Kedah (four), three cases for Sarawak, Negri Sembilan and Pahang, and two cases in Terengganu.
Perak and Labuan, on the other hand, reported one death each.
Apart from that, there were 369 ICU patients who were placed under respiratory support. – May 24, 2021.
