SEVERAL areas in Sabah, Sarawak and Pahang will be placed under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) starting Monday, following a rise in Covid-19 infections, said Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob today.

Among the areas are Kampung Melikai (Kuala Penyu), Silimpopon Estate and Silimpopon Mill (Kalabakan) in Sabah.

In Pahang, the Gau area in Temerloh and seven mukim in Kuantan are affected, and in Sarawak, the Nyalu longhouse in Mukah.

The EMCO will be enforced until June 6.

Ismail Sabri said 15 Covid-19 cases have been detected from 78 tests in Kampung Melikai.

As for Silimpopon Estate and Silimpopon Mill, Ismail said there were 42 infections out of 238 tests taken.

“These areas are placed under EMCO to ensure the people there will not infect others outside their areas,” said Ismail Sabri.

In the Gau area, he said, four housing estates – Taman Gau Indah, Taman Gau Makmur, Taman Gau Aman and Taman Gau Idaman – and Kampung Gau Baru will come under the EMCO.

In Kuantan, the affected mukim are Berserah, Kuala Kuantan 1, Kuala Kuantan 2, Penor, Sungai Karang, Ulu Kuantan and Ulu Lepar.

In these areas, there were 619 new infections out of 6,548 tests.

Meanwhile, the government will end the EMCO at Taman Tanah Putih Baru in Kuantan and Jali longhouse and Lanyau longhouse in Mukah, Sarawak, tomorrow. – May 22, 2021.
