AN enhanced movement control order (EMCO) will be imposed in five localities, including two residential areas in Kuala Lumpur, from May 23 to June 5, said Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The five localities are Kampung Pagar Sungai Imam in Tawau Sabah, two workers hostels, Oceanic Fabric Mill and Purnabina, in Kluang, Johor, and Kampung Batu Muda Tambahan and PPR Kampung Limau in Kuala Lumpur.
“We decided to impose the EMCO after all five localities recorded an increase in new Covid-19 infections,” he said in a statement today.
Ismail Sabri said 24 positive cases were detected in Kampung Pagar Sungai Imam while the Oceanic Fabric Mills workers’ hostel recorded 25 cases and 31 at the Purnabina hostel.
“The Health Ministry (MOH) also found that the infectivity rate at the two workers hostels is high thus, we expect cases to increase,” Ismail Sabri added.
As for the two areas in Kuala Lumpur, Ismail Sabri disclosed that 76 cases were found at the Kampung Muda Tambahan while 59 people from PPR Kampung Limau were infected.
“There is a significant increase in a short period of time at both localities in Kuala Lumpur. The infectivity rate is also high,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said the government will be extending the EMCO at three villages in Bunut Susu, Pasir Mas in Kelantan until June 5.
The EMCO at the three villages was supposed to end tomorrow.
“The three localities are Kampung Paya Ular, Kampung Bechah Palas and Kampung Tualang,” said Ismail Sabri.
“There are still active cases found in the three places,” he said.
So far, MOH has found 94 cases from Kampung Paya Ular, 75 cases from Kampung Bechah Palas and 69 cases from Kampung Tualang. – May 21, 2021.
