THE National Security Council (NSC) will decide tomorrow if the current movement control order (MCO) will be tightened to a full lockdown, said Takiyuddin Hassan.

The minister in the Prime Minister’s Department said the meeting, to be chaired by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, will determine if a full lockdown is needed.

“It (total lockdown) is among the things the NSC has to discuss, and the options open to it after the previous MCO. It has to be decided if it will be nationwide or targeted,” he was quoted as saying in news reports in Kota Baru today after attending a state security meeting.

Malaysia recorded 6,806 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, the highest daily count yet since the start of the pandemic, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Selangor continued to be the state with the highest number of daily cases, at 2,277, followed by Kuala Lumpur (655) and Johor (615).

The previous all-time daily high was yesterday when 6,075 new infections were registered.

Muhyiddin had enforced MCO 3.0 for the whole country from May 12 to June 7.

However, unlike the previous MCO, this round has allowed economic sectors to continue operating.

Takiyuddin said Putrajaya is focused on tackling the spike in Covid-19 cases in the country.

“We are focusing on it right now. The less important matters have been set aside,” he was quoted as saying. – May 20, 2021.
