DIRECTOR-GENERAL of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah hinted last night a full lockdown could be imminent when he retweeted a post calling the measure a “must’ as Covid-19 infections grow.

The tweet by @izwnnrdn said: “Healthcare system already being used at full capacity. It is necessary and a MUST to implement total lockdown!”

The Health Ministry, National Security Council, Noor Hisham and Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob were tagged in the tweet.

Earlier today, Noor Hisham posted on Twitter about the people of Taiwan practising “self lockdown”.

Health Minister Dr Adham Baba warned yesterday that Selangor would go into lockdown should current efforts fail to contain the  Covid-19 epidemic.

Adham was questioned on the increasing number of cases in the state even after MCO 3.0 was enforced.

For 25 straight days, Selangor logged the most infections among the states and territories.

Yesterday the nation saw a record 45 virus deaths and 522 admissions into intensive care

The death toll now stands at 1,947

  • A total lockdown is inevitable no matter what the economic consequences. There is no soft landing in this pandemic. Bite the bullet and survive the lockdown, hopefully with precisely targeted government aid only to the very poor and vulnerable. Businesses will survive one way or the other despite whining over it for some time.
