3,780 new Covid-19 cases, 36 deaths

MALAYSIA reported 3,780 fresh Covid-19 infections in the past 24 hours, said Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

And Selangor once again accounted for the bulk of the cases with 1,275 fresh infections. This was followed by Sarawak and Kedah with 405 and 363 cases respectively.

Noor Hisham said the fresh cases have taken the national caseload to 470,110.

Only two of today’s cases were imported while the remaining came from local transmissions.

Active cases declined for the first time since April 6, to 41,889 from yesterday’s 42,135.

Meanwhile, 36 people succumbed to Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, raising the national death toll to 1,902.

The oldest among the deceased, was a 90-year-old man in Alor Setar, Kedah, who also suffered from stroke.

The youngest person to succumb to Covid-19 in the past 24 hours was a 47-year-old woman in Kuala Lumpur. The deceased had diabetes, high blood pressure and chronic kidney disease.

On recoveries, Noor Hisham said 3,990 people had recuperated from the coronavirus, taking the cumulative total of recoveries to 426,319. – May 16, 2021.
