MALAY rights group Perkasa has directed its members to campaign against MIC, starting with the Segamat parliamentary seat which is held by party president Dr S. Subramaniam and other popular MIC seats like Cameron Highlands.
Perkasa secretary-general Syed Hassan Syed Ali the Barisan Nasional component party was rude towards Islam especially by meddling in the issue of controversial preacher Dr Zakir Naik.
“Starting this Friday, Perkasa will start an anti-MIC campaign to tell Muslims it is haram to vote for MIC because it insulted Islam,” Syed Hassan told a press conference today.
Dr Subramaniam, who is also health minister, had on April 20 said Zakir was not needed in Malaysia because he had not contributed in any way to the progress of Islam besides not benefiting the country.
Meanwhile, Perkasa has made seven police reports throughout the country after MIC treasurer Vell Paari allegedly linked Perkasa to militant group Islamic State.
Perkasa claims that Vell Paari’s statement was provocative and widely spread on social media, including via WhatsApp.
Vell Paari’s statement in The Star’s online portal was not published in full.
To this, Syed Hassan said: It seems The Star is trying to play safe by not using the whole statement. But we saw it(full statement) in WhatsApp and other portals.
“We know it’s from him. Even if it isn’t, he must come out and say so. Otherwise legal action will be taken if necessary.”
Syed Hassan said, however, even if Vell Paari denies making the statement, Perkasa would still campaign against MIC.
“Its president (Subramaniam) has hurt the feelings of Muslims by raising the issue of Zakir,” he added. – May 15, 2017.
