2 Pahang localities, 1 in Sabah to be under EMCO

THE government has agreed to implement the Enhanced Movement-Control Order (EMCO) in two areas in Pahang and one in Sabah after a surge in Covid-19 cases, said Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob today.

The affected areas are Kg Paya Teh in Jerantut and Seri Kemunting in Kuantan – both in Pahang, and at Kg Sungai Langgas in Kunak, Sabah.

The EMCO in these areas will be from May 17-30.

Ismail Sabri said the Health Ministry has conducted 54 screenings on residents in Kg Paya Teh, from which 35 were confirmed positive for Covid-19.

In Seri Kemunting, 62 residents were screened and 16 tested positive for the virus.

Meanwhile, 17 positive cases were detected as a result of screenings conducted by the ministry on 34 individuals in Kg Sungai Langgas in Sabah.

Ismail Sabri also said that EMCO at two longhouses in Sarawak – Rumah Panjang Jali Anak Empaling and Lanyau Anak Tuli, Bukit Dinding-Bergerik – will be extended until May 23.

The EMCO at these two longhouses were to end today.

He added that 551 people were arrested for flouting the MCO yesterday and from this number, 519 were issued with compounds and 32 were remanded. – May 15, 2021.
