TERENGGANU executive committee (exco) member Azman Ibrahim has paid a fine for breaching the movement-control order (MCO) standard operating procedure (SOP) in lieu of prosecution.

He said that police had offered him a compound for his offence, and that he decided to pay up.

“I was also punished (like) … ordinary citizens, with the same compound offer rate. God willing, it will be settled as quickly as possible. No one is above the law,” the Jabi assemblyman said in a Facebook post today.

Azman is chairman of the Terengganu state government’s Agriculture, Food Industries, Plantations, Commodities and Rural Development Committee.

He was found to have breached the SOP after his neighbour visited him yesterday, the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Sinar Harian reported that Besut OCPD Supt Abdul Rozak Muhammad had said Azman and his neighbour Zakaria Mahmud were compounded RM2,000 for the violation.

Earlier yesterday, Azman said he had not held any open house but that a couple of people had visited him, saying that he sometimes receives visitors for various reasons.

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin recently announced that a nationwide MCO would be imposed from May 12 to June 7 to curb the transmission of Covid-19.

Under the SOP, open houses were prohibited for the celebration. – Bernama, May 14, 2021.
