Health Ministry confirms record 20 Covid-19 clusters detected today

THE Ministry of Health today reported 20 new Covid-19 clusters, the highest number detected in a single day.

The previous high was 19, reported on February 16.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said workplace clusters formed the bulk of the list.

The eight workplace clusters reported are:

  • Kampung Padang Lalang in Pasir Mas Kelantan, 15 cases
  • Jalan Sawit in Sarikei, Sarawak, 18 cases
  • Tanjong Kibong in Sibu, Sarawak, 35 cases
  • Sri Manjalara in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, 6 cases
  • Persiaran Layar Perak in Johor Bahru, Johor, 13 cases
  • Taman Pertama in Manjung, Kinta and Perak Tengah in Perak, 10 cases
  • Kopitiam Machap Baru in Alor Gajah and Jasin, Malacca, 20 cases
  • Mutiara Bentong in Bentong and Temerloh, Pahang, 15 cases.

The clusters were detected at factories, a restaurant, business premises, a public administration office and service companies.

There were also clusters from community transmissions, of which five were traced to a symptomatic index patient.

The community clusters reported are:

  • Paya Ular in Pasir Mas, Kelantan, 41 cases
  • Sungai Mas in Bintulu, Sarawak, 53 cases
  • Mongkos in Kuching and Tepedu, Sarawak, 23 cases
  • Jalan Dato Onn in Kota Tinggi, Johor, 9 cases
  • Tanah Putih Baru in Kuantan, Pahang, 26 cases
  • Mahkota Height in Kuantan, Pahang, 11 cases.

Meanwhile, Taman Medan in Petaling, Selangor (27 cases), Jalan Yaacob Latif in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur (six cases), Persiaran Setia Prima in Petaling and Klang (27 cases), and Jalan Kukup in Pontian, Johor (five cases), made up the list of education clusters.

Completing the list of clusters was Seruling 12, which is a cluster of 12 cases in Hulu Selangor, Selangor and Jalan Damai Bakti in Kuala Lumpur, which reported 20 cases.

Both of these clusters were linked to religious activities.

Noor Hisham also said 14 clusters are now inactive. With this, there are now 411 active clusters nationwide. – May 5, 2021.
