Community, workplace transmissions form bulk of 17 new Covid-19 clusters

SEVEN of 17 new Covid-19 clusters detected today are from community transmissions, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

Four of the seven community clusters are linked to symptomatic index cases.

The seven clusters were detected in Sarawak (two), Johor (two), Kelantan (one), Kedah (one) and Labuan (one).

The community cluster that contributed the highest number of infections today is Batu 25, which spread across Bintulu and Sebauh in Sarawak, with 98 cases.

The other community clusters are:

1. Bungey in Betong – 12 cases;

2. Tangkis Selatan in Tangkak, Muar, and Segamat, Johor – 11 cases;

3. Jalan Surian in Kota Tinggi – 8 cases;

4. Batu 30 in Machang, Kelantan – 30 cases;

5. Jerai Maju in Kuala Muda, Kedah – 9 cases; and

6. Layangan Labuan in Labuan – 12 cases.

The remaining new clusters comprise five at workplaces and four in the education sector.

The five workplace clusters are:

1. Taming Jaya in Hulu Selangor, involving employees of a factory – 43 cases;

2. Medini Central in Johor Baru, involving workers of a factory – 9 cases;

3. Jalan Kweng Hitam in Machang, Kelantan, involving employees of a public administration office –14 cases;

4. Jalan Yahya 2 in Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur, involving a training centre – 14 cases; and

5. Jalan Besar Sungai Jawi in Seberang Perai Tengah and Seberang Perai Selatan in Penang, involving employees of a factory – 29 cases.

The four education clusters are:

1. Dah Kilometer Tujuh in Baling, Kedah – 13 cases;

2. Lubuk Katak in Batang Padang, Perak – 24 cases;

3. D’Kuala in Papar, Sabah – 16 cases; and

4. Jalan Ungku Abdul Aziz in Kota Tinggi, Johor – 22 cases.

Of the four, the only school cluster is D’ Kuala in Sabah.

The 17th and final cluster today is Sri Lambak, with 13 cases in Kluang, Johor, involving a religious activity.

Ten clusters were also declared inactive, putting the number of active clusters in the country at 405. – May 4, 2021.
