FORMER prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad will face Khalid Abu Bakar in court over allegations the former inspector-general of police had leaked information on police’s investigation into the 1Malaysia Development Berhad scandal.

“I have received the letter of demand from ex-IGP Khalid Abu Bakar. I have instructed my lawyers to respond to it. I will see him in court,” said the 95-year-old in a tweet today.

Khalid is seeking RM10 million from Dr Mahathir after the latter’s allegations last month.

The Pejuang chairman had alleged the delay in action against former prime minister Najib Razak in the 1MDB case came about after Khalid had leaked information on the findings of the probe.

Khalid, however, had denied the allegations and had demanded that Dr Mahathir retract the statement.

Khalid was part of a task force set up in 2015, which included the heads of Bank Negara Malaysia, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the attorney-general – who conducted an investigation into 1MDB’s finances and investments.

Khalid retired from the police force on September 4, 2017. – May 4, 2021.
