M. INDIRA Gandhi has pinned her hopes on newly appointed Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani finding her missing daughter.
She told The Malaysian Insight Acryl would be the sixth police chief to take up the case to locate Prasana Diksa who was snatched by her ex-husband 13 years ago.
“No matter who is the IGP, I hope that someone can help get my daughter back,”” she said.
“I hope this IGP can solve this matter and not drag it any longer as it has been 13 years.”
Yesterday Acryl was named the new IGP, replacing Abdul Hamid Bador, who retires on May 3.
Home Minister Hamzah Zainuddin, who handed the appointment letter to Acryl, said the Police Commission had agreed on the appointment.
Acryl became Hamid’s deputy in 2020, replacing Mazlan Mansor. Prior to that, he was the internal security and public order director in Bukit Aman.
Indira hit out at the outgoing police chief Hamid for not delivering on his promise to find her daughter.
“Stop making excuses for what you (Hamid) failed to do. He is trying to brush off what he hasn’t done (which is) to locate Prasana.”
Yesterday Hamid had blamed the lack of progress on the case on Indira’s “meddling”. He said he appealed to Indira to give the cops more time and not to meddle in the investigations by making statements that hampered police work.
“It is my daughter, how can I not meddle? His statements are a joke,” Indira said in response.
Indira said she had sent seven letters to Hamid asking for a meeting but to no avail.
The Indira Gandhi Action Team (Ingat) had also slammed the police for failing to find the girl and filed a RM100 million suit against the force and its chief Hamid.
In 2014, the court ordered Indira’s former husband Muhammad Riduan Abdullah to return Prasana to Indira but he failed to obey, leading to a court order compelling police to arrest him.
In 2018, Indira won a 10-year legal battle for custody of Prasana.
The Federal Court in January last year nullified her former spouse’s unilateral conversion of her three children to Islam.
The two older children live with Indira and are raised as Hindus. Prasana has been missing since she was a baby. – May 2, 2021.
