DEPUTY Inspector General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani is the new Inspector General of Police, replacing Abdul Hamid Bador, who retires on May 3.

Home Minister Hamzah Zainuddin, who handed over the appointment letter to Acryl this morning, said that the Police Commission had agreed to appoint Acryl as the new IGP.

“Even Hamid (Bador) signed the letter to appoint Acryl as the IGP,” said Hamzah during a ceremony at the Home Ministry. Hamid was the country’s 12th IGP replacing Mohamad Fuzi Harun who retired in May 2019.

Hamid, who was attached to the Special Branch unit for most of his career and made headlines after he openly criticised the shady business deal in 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) when Najib Razak was still the prime minister.

As a result, Hamid was transferred out of the police force, but was then brought back and appointed back as the head of the special branch when Pakatan Harapan defeated Barisan Nasional in the 14th general election.

Acryl, meanwhile, was appointed as Hamid’s deputy in 2020, replacing Mazlan Mansor.

Before becoming deputy, Acryl was the Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order director.

Born in Petaling Jaya, Acryl holds a degree in Civil Engineering. – April 30, 2021.
