PUTRAJAYA will defer the proposed toll hike for the Kesas Highway, South Klang Valley Expressway and Lebuhraya Pantai Timur 2 (LPT2) to year end, said Fadillah Yusof.
In a statement, the Works Minister said the toll hike on the three major highways was supposed to be implemented on January 1 this year.
He said the decision to delay the toll hike will cost the government RM2.25 billion.
“Due to the ongoing pandemic, the government on Wednesday decided to defer the proposed toll in 2021 from January 1 to December 31.
“The cost for the government is RM2.25 billion with negotiations to restructure toll rates ongoing with concession companies,” the minister said.
“The cabinet has also agreed for this to be finalised before 2023,” Fadillah added.
Fadillah said that the government agreed to continue to postponing other toll hikes at 21 highways and one toll plaza, which were previously delayed.
“The government previously deferred increasing toll rates at 21 highways and one toll plaza and we decided to further extend this decision.
“Among these highways are the DUKE Highway, PLUS Highway, Damansara Puchong LDP Highway and KL Putrajaya MEX Highway,” he said.
“The actual amount of compensation will be finalised after verification is done by the Malaysian Highway Authority.” – April 30, 2021.
