Teng challenges Liew to debate Bersatu debacle

Selangor DAP veteran Teng Chang Khim says party strategist Liew Chin Tong should admit his mistake and not solely blame Muhyiddin Yassin for Pakatan Harapan’s collapse in 2020. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, April 25, 2021.

DAP’s long-time Selangor leader Teng Chang Khim has challenged party strategist Liew Chin Tong to a debate as the war of words continues to escalate ahead of its party elections on June 20.

In a statement posted on his Facebook today, Teng urged Liew to admit his mistake and not blame Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin for what happened in February last year.

“Inviting Muhyiddin to the leadership retreat is the truth, and I can understand if he didn’t want sensitive issues to affect cooperation with Bersatu.

“Now that Liew has made a mistake, just admit your mistake and don’t blame Muhyiddin entirely, That’s not right. If you knew he was a bad apple and still wanted to work with him, then just admit you were played,” said Teng on Facebook today.

“If you want to debate, name the time and date, remember to broadcast live,” said Teng, who is Selangor’s local government executive councillor.

This is the second time Teng has attacked Liew, following the latter’s book on DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang.

On Thursday, Teng had also called out Liew for supporting Muhyiddin in the run-up to the 2018 election.

The debate over Liew’s role in supporting Muhyiddin has come up as the party heads to elections.

Teng is among those who are now blaming Liew for supporting Bersatu’s inclusion into Pakatan Harapan for the 2018 polls.

He said it is hypocritical for Liew to blame Muhyiddin for the collapse of the PH government last year after backing him since 2016.

Teng, who announced his retirement from politics last year, said his remarks has nothing to do with DAP’s elections.

“I’ve announced my retirement, and I’m not in Johor. Liew’s the one contesting there, how did I become his competitor? It might be tough there, but there’s no need for him to fight with my shadow.

“I’m commenting on issues as they. Please don’t exaggerate your fear and your imagination,” said the veteran DAP leader. – April 25, 2021.
