Two men nabbed for selling firecrackers, ketum juice

POLICE detained two men on suspicion of selling firecrackers and ketum juice in a raid at a food court in Kg Baru, Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Dang Wangi police chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said the two suspects, a local and an Indonesian national in their 30s and 50s, were picked up at about 4am.

“Police seized various types of firecrackers estimated to be worth RM25,000, five gunny bags containing 320 packets of ketum leaves and 14 bottles of ketum juice worth RM850 in the raid.

“The two suspects were also believed to be cooking the ketum leaves to sell the juice at RM10 each,” he said in a statement today.

Zainal said investigations found the firecrackers were meant to be sold to residents around here in conjunction with Aidilfitri.

The suspects were remanded for four days until Sunday for further investigation under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957 and Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952. – Bernama, April 22, 2021.
