Death toll from Covid-19 cases climbs to 1,400

THE death toll from Covid-19 cases in Malaysia rose to 1,400 after 11 new fatalities were reported in the past 24 hours, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The Health Director-General said the latest fatalities were of nine locals and two foreigners.

Active Covid-19 cases in the country rose to 21,687 with Malaysia reporting 2,340 fresh cases to 1,910 recoveries in the past 24 hours, he said.

This is the seventh consecutive day the daily infections reported more than 2,000 cases.

Noor Hisham said Selangor displaced Sarawak as the state with the most number of cases – with 526 new infections.

Cumulatively, Selangor’s overall number of cases now stands at 125,111, followed by Sabah with 57,164 and Johor with 43,703.

After three straight days of reporting most cases, Sarawak today dropped to second with 429 cases, followed by Kelantan with 370.

On today’s deaths, Dr Noor Hisham said six fatalities were recorded in Sabah, four in Sarawak and one in Kuala Lumpur.

Of the deaths in Sabah, three of them were brought in dead to hospital.

Noor Hisham also said a total of 248 patients are admitted in intensive care units (ICU), while 101 of them require breathing assistance. – April 21, 2021.
