FEDERAL Territories Minister Annuar Musa wants to meet with the Convent Bukit Nanas (CBN) Sisters to help resolve their issues pertaining to land lease, The Star reports.

Annuar said that he had no knowledge of the problem faced by the school and was trying to get more information on the matter.

“I personally think that CBN should not be touched and should be allowed to continue operating.

“Land ownership issues are something that we can discuss. I would like to meet the CBN Sisters and lend an ear to find out more,” he was quoted as saying.

He was commenting on the non-renewal of CBN’s land lease once it expires in September.

The school will then be reverted to the government to become a fully aided government school.

The Lady Superior of the Society of St Maur, which is the school’s board, has applied for leave for a judicial review to challenge the government’s decision not to extend the school’s land lease.

The suit was filed after they were informed by the Land Office in December that the lease would not be extended after its expiry on September 6 this year.

However, the Federal Territories Land and Office said CBN will not be demolished as it was the government’s decision to ensure the school, which was established in 1899, receives full government assistance, instead of partial government funding as it is now.

Annuar said the issue of CBN, which was in the media, was never referred to him despite the school being located in Kuala Lumpur.

He said this was because all federal land matters fall under the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry and Chief Secretary to the Government under the Prime Minister’s Office.

“I have also asked the director of the Federal Territories Land and Mines Office (PPTGWP) for more details on the background of the matter and a status report on the CBN issue.” – April 21, 2021.
