COVID-19 cases in the country remained above the 2,000 mark for a sixth consecutive day, with the nation reporting 2,341 fresh cases in the past 24 hours, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The Health director-general said Sarawak reported the highest number of cases for the third day in a row, registering 600 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. This was followed by Selangor with 539 cases.
Kelantan also marked the highest number of new cases in the state with 429, while Kuala Lumpur reported its highest number of new cases since late February.
Noor Hisham said all states in the country reported new cases today, taking the nation’s total so far to 379,473.
Active cases also rose to 21,268, despite 1,592 recoveries today.
A total of 249 patients are admitted in intensive care units, and 95 of them require respiratory support.
The death toll from the coronavirus also increased to 1,389 with three fatalities today.
One death each was reported in Selangor, Sarawak and Sabah.
The two male deceased, from Selangor and Sarawak, each had underlying medical conditions, while the deceased in Sabah, a female foreigner, had no past medical record. – April 20, 2021.
