THE implementation of phase two of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme has been delayed in Selangor due to a backlog involving recipients from the earlier rollout, said Khairy Jamaluddin.

Khairy, who is the coordinating minister for the programme, said frontliners in Selangor are still receiving the second dose of the vaccine, which has pushed the start date of the second phase in the state to April 26.

The nationwide phase two vaccination programme started today.

“We have a little backlog in Selangor where the state is still inoculating the frontliners from phase one,” he said at his weekly press conference on the vaccination programme.

“So, when it is finished, then phase two will start in Selangor on April 26.”

Khairy said at the moment, 258,783 frontliners across the country have yet to complete the second dose of the vaccine.

He said as of today, 443,029 people have received both doses of their vaccine while 701,812 have received one dose in the first phase of the vaccination programme.

Khairy also said 8,992,832 people – or 37% – have signed up for the programme.

“This is an increase by 5% since last week and this is a positive sign,” he said.

The first phase of vaccination is from February to April, involving 500,000 frontliners, including healthcare workers.

The second phase is from April to August, involving 9.4 million senior citizens, aged 60 and above, as well as vulnerable groups with morbidity problems and persons with disabilities.

The third phase, scheduled from May to February 2022, is for individuals aged 18 and above, targeting about 14 million people. – April 19, 2021.
