HEALTH authorities detected five new Covid-19 clusters today, taking the number of virus groupings reported in the country to 1,520, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The director-general of health said of the five clusters, three were detected at workplaces, while one was community-based and the other traced at learning institution.
Two clusters each were reported in Selangor and Sarawak, while one was detected in Johor.
Noor Hisham said the Jalan Perindustrian Satu cluster, detected among factory workers at Muar, Johor contributed the most cases, with 254 people testing positive for the coronavirus.
The two other workplace clusters detected were Selat Klang with 25 positive cases and Cahaya Alam construction site cluster with 20 cases. These two clusters were traced in Selangor.
In Sarawak, the two clusters detected were Tarat Tani and Jalan Bintulu Sibu.
Tarat Tani in Serian, Sarawak was a community-based cluster, with 21 positive cases.
Finally, the Jalan Bintulu Sibu cluster involving students and staffers of a school in Tatau and Bintulu district reported 11 positive cases.
The five new virus groupings today bring the number of active clusters in the country to 338, with 64 of them still reporting new cases.
Clusters reporting most cases today besides the newly traced Jalan Perindustrian Satu are Kok Lanas with 74 cases and Kg Bunut Sarang Burung with 43 cases.
A total of 14 clusters ended today, taking the number of clusters to conclude to 1,182. – April 18, 2021.
