PAKATAN Harapan chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad will not give up the opposition prime minister’s post to de facto PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim, said Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong.
Weighing in on the PH deadlock on the choice of prime minister candidate, Mah said the former prime minister would hold on the the post to pass it to his son, Mukhriz when the opportunity arose.
“But think properly, it was Mahathir who put Anwar in jail. You think that when Mahathir becomes the prime minister, he would give up his seat for Anwar?
“Of course not. I think he would only give it to his son, Mukhriz. This is a reality,” said the Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister in his speech at Wisma MCA today.
Dr Mahathir and PH president Dr Wan Azizah Ismail were announced as the proposed prime minister and deputy prime minister candidates, respectively, at the conclusion of a PH retreat last month.
Their candidacy, however, has not been endorsed by PKR, who has set down conditions for its consent.
PH said it hoped to announce the candidates during its second national convention in Shah Alam tomorrow.
Mah also trained his guns on DAP and said the party has tricked the Chinese people into believing that Mahathir would bring change to the nation.
“The opposition can win previously two times in the last general election… because the opposition in 2008 and 2013 had always criticised Mahathir saying that he is corrupt and greedy.
“At the time, they criticised (him) non-stop. But now DAP is saying that if you want to save the nation, then you have to rely on Mahathir.
“Previously, they told the Chinese that if you want to save the nation, then you have to rely on PAS. How many times do you want to be tricked?” he said.
Mah added that DAP has for the past 10 years has dumped their code of “honesty, principle, standpoint and morality” as seen in the land reclamation in Penang.
“DAP has failed to take care of the environment, failed to take care of the people who live near the mountains, failed to address the pollution at Sungai Lembu, failed to bring Penang’s economy responsibly. DAP has failed, failed, failed.
“After 10 years, the only thing that they have succeeded is running from their responsibility,” he said.
Mah was speaking at the MCA-Gerakan Stronger Together Assembly today with MCA president Liow Tiong Lai, where they announced there will be a nationwide National Vision Roadshow to explain the TN50 plan to Malaysians.
“After this, MCA and Gerakan will embark on a nationwide National Vision roadshow to disseminate information on such achievement to the grassroots, and let the people have a clearer picture,” Liow said in his speech. – January 6, 2018.
