WARISAN’S Peter Anthony has been remanded for three days over a graft probe involving a failed RM155 million palm oil land purchase in Tongod district.
This is the second time Anthony is being remanded. He was detained last year for alleged embezzlement of federal funds meant for Sabah rural projects.
“Menang sudah Warisan. Lagi dorang tangkap lagi-lah orang akan sokong (Warisan has won. The more arrests, the more people will root for Warisan)” said a handcuffed Anthony as he was being brought out of the magistrate court by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers.
A smiling Anthony was hugging a bible as he was led out of the court.
Only a few of Warisan supporters were at the Kota Kinabalu court building.
The remand order was issued by magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus on an application by MACC.
Anthony was arrested yesterday after being questioned for three hours over an alleged criminal breach of trust into the purchase of a palm oil land in 2014 involving Rubber Industries Smallholders Development Authority (Risda)
He was detained around 12.30pm, MACC said.
His lawyer Martin Tommy said Anthony will have to undergo a medical check-up at a government hospital around noon.
“His remand will begin today and end on Monday,” he said.
MACC senior assistant enforcer Khairuddin Kilau who filed the application, said Anthony is being investigated under MACC Act section 16(a) (A) for receiving bribe.
MACC is also looking for lawyer, Michael Ubu, who was appointed by Risda to handle the land purchase.
It is understood Ubu was to refund a 10% deposit or RM15 million to Risda after the land deal met an end as the status of the native titles could not be changed from the local land office. – January 6, 2018.
