PAKATAN Harapan must not take its women members for granted as they are sacrificing a lot to help the opposition coalition prepare for the 14th general election, the woman’s wing leader said today.
Wanita PH deputy chief Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said women members were giving up a lot to help the opposition pact achieve its goals.
She said while it was good that PH had launched its women’s wing in Selangor and at national level, it was disappointing that Selangor PH was not yet launched.
“I am a bit aggrieved that Selangor PH has not been launched. It seems that the women understand and are more forward looking in this matter,” the Kota Raja MP said at the Wanita PH convention in Kajang today.
The event was launched by PH president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is also PKR president.
The Selangor PH leadership lineup was announced in September by its chairman Azmin Ali, who is the Menteri Besar.
The four deputy chairman at state-level are Tony Pua (DAP), Izham Hashim (Amanah), Abdul Rashid Asari (Bersatu) and R. Sivarasa (PKR).
“I want to remind the male leaders, please do not put to waste the efforts of PH women who have made sacrifices for the sake of politics without receiving an allowance or a salary,” said Dr Siti Mariah, who is also Wanita Amanah chief.
She said PH women leaders will need to employ various strategies to fight Umno and BN in the election.
They should retain conventional campaign approaches such as personal contact with voters, even though the election will also be fought online.
“Even though it has been said the battle for votes takes place on social media, we must not forget the old ways of using the human touch to meet voters personally,” she said. – January 6, 2018.
