Seven new Covid-19 clusters traced, six linked to workplaces

SEVEN new Covid-19 clusters were traced in the past 24 hours, with six linked to workplaces, including two education centres, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The Health Ministry director-general said the new workplace clusters were detected in Sabah, Selangor, Penang, Malacca and Kedah.

The seventh cluster is linked to a community-based transmission in Selangor.

These seven clusters contributed a total of 122 Covid-19 infections today, with the six workplace clusters contributing 102 cases.

The two learning centres are in Permatang Berangan in Kedah, with 28 people infected, and the Jalan Khidmat cluster, named after the location of an education centre in Sabah, which has 24 infections.

Also in Sabah is the Batu Sepuluh cluster at a public institute, with 16 cases.

Other workplace clusters detected are Jalan Mohd Taib in Selangor with 10 cases, Jalan Sempilai in Penang with 14 cases and Jalan Gapam in Malacca with 10 cases.

The sole community-based cluster traced in Selangor is called Jalan Sahadi and was caused by a social event. This cluster reported 20 cases.

Noor Hisham said the seven new clusters today brought the total clusters in the country to 1,485, of which 341 are active and 72 reporting new cases.

Clusters reporting the most cases today are Tembok Sri Aman with 76 cases, followed by Jalan Puncak Borneo with 47 cases and the newly traced Permatang Berangan with 27 cases.

Ten other clusters ended today. – April 14, 2021.
