DAILY Covid-19 infections are on the rise again with the country reporting 1,767 fresh cases in the past 24 hours, Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

The director-general of health said in a Facebook post that for the second day running, Sarawak had reported the bulk of the new cases, with the state recording 607 infections today.

This was followed by Selangor with 483 cases, and Kuala Lumpur completing the top three with 133 cases.

Perlis was the only state not to have recorded any cases in the past 24 hours.

Malaysia’s total caseload is now at 363,940.

Noor Hisham said 1,290 patients recovered today, bringing the number of active cases to 16,300.

Of the number of active cases, 199 are being treated in intensive care, 82 of whom require respiratory.

Noor Hisham said there were 12 deaths, of whom are locals, taking the fatality toll to 1,345.

This is the first time in almost two months that the daily fatalities have hit double figures.

The last time Malaysia reported daily deaths in double digits was on February 27, when 10 fatalities were recorded.

Noor Hisham said Sabah and Sarawak accounted for four deaths each while Selangor reported three and Terengganu, one.

All four victims in Sabah and the sole victim in Terengganu, who was also the oldest today, were brought in dead to hospitals.

Eleven of the 12 victims had underlying medical conditions. – April 13, 2021.
