SARAWAK has seen an uptick in Covid-19 cases since January 9, said Health Minister Dr Adham Baba.

“The data shows that this is a result of certain clusters,” he said in his weekly Covid-19 press conference today.

“There are 39 community and 17 workplace clusters that are currently active,” he added.

Social clusters accounted for a bulk of the 39 community transmission clusters at 21.

He also mentioned five longhouse clusters, three village clusters, four clusters linked to inter-district travel and one linked to cockfighting (sabung ayam) among others.

Adham said he will be flying to Sarawak today to meet with the state government to discuss preparations to mitigate the virus spread, including mobilisation of manpower and equipment.

Sarawak’s infectivity rate was 1.08 as of yesterday.

Yesterday, the Sarawak reported 443 cases in the previous 24 hours, the second highest of any state. The cumulative total number of cases in the state stood at 20,001.
