Covid-19 cases drop after yesterday’s spike, says Noor Hisham

THERE is a significant drop in new Covid-19 infections today with 1,510 cases, said health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Yesterday, Malaysia saw a sharp hike in the number of new daily cases, with 1,854 cases.

The new cases in the last 24 hours raised the country’s total caseload to 359,117.

Selangor registered the highest number of new cases, at 415. Sarawak recorded the second highest cases with 296 while Sabah has 131.

Perlis however recorded two new cases after recording zero infection for the past few days.

Of today’s fresh cases, Noor Hisham said only five were imported while the remaining were local transmissions.

On recoveries, he said 1,248 people have been discharged, leaving current active cases at 15,059.

Of active cases, 194 patients are currently warded in intensive care units, 81 of whom required respiratory support.

There were also eight fatalities, raising the national death toll from the virus to 1,321. – April 10, 2021.
