MALAYSIA reported 1,300 new Covid-19 infections in the past 24 hours with Sarawak recording the highest number of cases at 385, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The Health Ministry director-general said the latest tally brings the country’s total caseload to 353,329.
Of the new cases, 24 were imported while 1,276 involved local transmissions.
Selangor had the second highest number of cases by state with 242, followed by Kelantan at 126.
Sarawak’s new cases today included 168 that came from three new clusters.
Nationwide, recoveries from the virus outpaced new cases for the second day in a row, with 1,412 people discharged from hospitals.
The number of active cases has also dropped to 14,161 compared to 14,278 yesterday.
Of the active cases, 189 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with 88 intubated.
Five deaths were reported today, which takes the death toll to 1,300.
Three deaths were in Sabah, including the youngest fatality, a 36-year-old Malaysian male who had high blood pressure, obesity and sleep apnoea.
The other deaths were in Selangor and Kelantan. The oldest fatality was an 80-year-old who had comorbidities, including kidney disease. – April 6, 2021.
