1,070 new Covid-19 cases, lowest in a week

MALAYSIA reported 1,070 new Covid-19 infections in the past 24 hours, the lowest number of daily cases in a week, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The health director-general said the latest tally brings the country’s total caseload to 352,029.

Of the new cases reported today, Noor Hisham said that Selangor recorded the most with 327 infections, followed by Sarawak with 225 cases and Penang with 133 cases.

Noor Hisham said that of the new cases, nine were imported while 1,061 involved local transmission.

Of those local transmissions, 904 involved Malaysians and 157 involved foreigners.

Meanwhile, he said that recoveries outpaced new cases today with 1,294 people having recuperated and discharged from hospitals.

He said with this, the number of active cases has dropped to 14,278, where 180 are admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with 89 requiring respiratory support.

Besides this, the nation reported seven fatalities today, all locals – which takes the death toll to 1,295.

Four deaths were reported in the state of Selangor, two in Sabah and one in Johor.

Six of the seven victims were men, while everyone had underlying medical conditions. – April 5, 2021.
