Coffee beans from Colombia worth RM3.2 million seized at North Port


THE Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services (Maqis) Department seized 173,074kg of coffee beans from Colombia, valued at RM3.23 million, at North Port, Klang, for breach of the import permit.

Acting Selangor Maqis director Zamri Hisham said the consignment was seized during a routine inspection at 11am last Thursday.

An inspection found that the the consignment did not comply with the import conditions issued by Maqis,” he said in a statement today.

He said failure to comply with the permit conditions is an offence under Section 15(10) of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011, where offenders can be fined a maximum of RM100,000, jail for up to six years or both. – Bernama, April 3, 2021.
