MIC will, for now, support the leadership of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and work with Bersatu despite its issues with Umno, said MIC president S.A. Vigneswaran.
“Umno last week had decided to end ties with Bersatu in the next 15th general election. For MIC, we respect the decision made in the spirit of Barisan Nasional unity.
“However, MIC, for now, will support Muhyiddin’s administration and will cooperate with Bersatu pending a new development from a decision by BN’s supreme council.
“Let us wait and see the political movement for the near future,” he said during his policy speech at MIC’s annual general meeting today.
Muhyiddin, who is also Bersatu president, participated and addressed the assembly with a virtual speech.
Last week, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said their party will not budge from the initial decision of the Supreme Council to not work with Bersatu, PKR and DAP in GE15.
He said that Umno remained steadfast in its stand to contest alone in GE15 by using the BN symbol.
“To this day, I truly think the people’s confidence will only be achieved if we, BN and Perikatan Nasional, are able to show that these coalitions only prioritise the interests of the people.
“With this noble intention, there is no reason why this agenda cannot be achieved for the good of this country we love.”
Vigneswaran added that he is quite confident that Umno and Bersatu can resolve their differences just as Umno and PAS buried their problems despite being hostile to each other for 40 years. – April 3, 2021.
