PRIME Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said the National Security Council (NSC) will soon announce that those who have completed their two-dose Covid-19 vaccination will be able travel to anywhere in the country unfettered.

“(They) can fly anywhere. With the digital certificate they have been given, no enforcement agencies can stop their movement,” he said when answering a question on the national vaccination programme at a town hall meeting in Kuching this afternoon.

The prime minister said the decision was based on the latest international medical findings, where it was found that those who had completed the vaccination not only gave them immunity, it also did not make them carriers of the virus.

Muhyiddin said initially the government had some reservations for those who have been vaccinated, that although they may have immunity, they could still be potential carriers.

“But the finding not only give (them) immunity, but (they) will not become carriers.”

The prime minister said having the right to travel was not an incentive for the 20 million or so Malaysians who have not registered to be vaccinated.

“This is an encouragement,” he noted.

He also said depending on discussions with other countries, the Covid-19 digital certificate could also be used for international travel.

Muhyiddin said in Sarawak, some 1.3 million have registered to be vaccinated – 600,000 via the MySejahtera app and another 700,000 or so manually.

These are mainly people in the state’s rural areas where there is no internet access.

Expressing satisfaction that the first phase of the national vaccination programme had rolled out smoothly and on time, Muhyiddin said the second phase will be commence soon.

He said while the general plan in the second phase is to vaccinate those over 60 with chronic ailments, in Sarawak, priority is also given to vaccinating those in the state’s red zone areas.

He said, hopefully, that could help bring the number of new cases down. – April 1, 2021.
