Fahmi Reza to enter defence over allegedly offensive picture of PM


THE Ipoh Sessions Court today ordered a graphic designer to enter his defence on a charge of uploading an image of the prime minister on Facebook meant to offend the alleged victim.

Judge Norashima Khalid ruled that the prosecution had succeeded in establishing a prima facie case against Mohd Fahmi Reza Mohd Zarin, 40, who is accused of committing the offence through his Facebook account “Fahmi Reza” on February 8, 2016.

The posting was allegedly read at an address, Seraya Sdn Bhd, Batu 3 in Jalan Jelapang, Ipoh, at 2.40pm the same day.

The charge under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588) and punishable under Section 233(3) of the same act, carries a maximum RM50,000 fine or jail not exceeding one year, or both, on conviction.

The prosecution was represented by deputy public prosecutor Nazrul Nizam Zameri and the accused by counsel Syahredzan Johan. 

The court fixed January 8 for the defence trial. – Bernama, January 4, 2018.
