FOREIGN maids who were already working in Malaysia previously will be allowed to return to the country and continue their contract, said Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said those who wish to return will have to apply for the MyTravelPass and go through the mandatory 14-day quarantine as well as a swab test.

Ismail said quarantine costs will be borne by their employers.

“This is the category of maids who already have a visa but are stuck in their home countries,” he said.

He said the National Security Council decided to allow the return of foreign maids after appeals from maid agencies on complaints many of them had gone back to their respective countries when the Malaysian border was closed.

Meanwhile, Ismail said foreign maid agencies are now allowed to process recruitment applications for future foreign maids, as the process is expected to take around three to four months.

“Should the borders reopen in the next few months, then these maids would have their applications processed by then and do not need to wait any longer,” he said.

However, Ismail said entry into the country is subject to when the borders reopen and based on the Home Ministry’s permission. – March 30, 2021.
