UMNO leaders facing criminal trials are victims of selective prosecution, Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa said in a Facebook live session today.

“I feel bad for my friends who are being charged in court. They are being dragged through the court system because it’s selective prosecution.

“Otherwise, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (Umno president) and Najib Razak (Pekan MP) will not have to go through this. This is selective prosecution, it is political,” he said.

He was responding to critics who said that Umno leaders facing trial after the fall of Barisan Nasional in the last general election have contributed to Umno’s weakened state.

Annuar also said that there must be solidarity in Umno to support the leaders facing trial.

“That’s why I go to court to support Najib and Zahid when I have the time. I hope they get justice.”

Previously, Zahid claimed Umno leaders who are facing criminal charges are actually the ones trying to save the Malay nationalist party.

The “court cluster”, a term used to lump Umno leaders facing criminal charges, he said, were victims of propaganda for not wanting to let Umno be overshadowed by Bersatu. – March 28, 2021.
