UMNO must reject hypocritical characters and prevent them from representing the party in the next general election, said Youth chief Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

“Do not use the consolidation of the ummah to defend your weaknesses. Do not hide behind the ‘No Anwar No DAP’ slogan to hide your personal agenda to defend your position,” he said at the launch of the youth wing assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) today.

He did not name names but said these hypocrites included lawmakers who had jumped to Bersatu and who were given cabinet posts.

The ongoing Umno 2020 general assembly is expected to discuss the party’s political direction post-Perikatan Nasional (PN).

Umno’s leadership has decided to support the PN government only until the 15th general election is called, and will not cooperate with it for the polls.

This decision has to be endorsed at the party general assembly, which is being held today and tomorrow.

But there are also some in Umno who disagree with this position, and want it to continue cooperating with Bersatu and stay with PN.

Asyraf also questioned PN’s claims that it would bring about change and improvements.

“Where is justice when Umno leaders who allegedly received allocations from 1MDB sources are prosecuted, while traitors who received similar allocations are not prosecuted?”

“What is the status of the prosecution and justice for the late Adib Kassim, the firefighter who was brutally killed?

“What about the status of the prosecution cases of Pakatan Harapan leaders that were dropped or withdrawn, including the Lim Guan Eng bungalow and Penang undersea tunnel case, or the case of DAP assemblymen in Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE)?”

Asyraf also said Umno Youth is still waiting for a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) to investigate all allegations of misconduct and irregularities in Tabung Haji, and for the authorities to investigate exposes made by former attorney-general Tommy Thomas in his book My Story: Justice in the Wilderness. – March 27, 2021.
