Three of eight new Covid-19 clusters traced to learning institutions

THE Health Ministry reported eight new Covid-19 clusters today, with seven of them linked to workplaces, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. 

The director-general of health said one workplace cluster each were reported in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Kelantan, Kedah, Labuan, Putrajaya and Sabah. 

The other cluster detected today was a community transmission, detected in Sabah. 

He said 125 cases stemmed from these eight clusters, where the workplace clusters alone accounted to 114 cases. 

Noor Hisham said three clusters today were detected at learning institutions, which contributed a combined 32 cases. 

The first cluster among learning centres is Persiaran Maktab, detected in the districts of Klang, Hulu Langat and Gombak, Selangor. This cluster reported seven cases. 

Next is Paloh Rambai, which spreads over the districts of Kota Bahru and Bachok. 

Noor Hisham said this cluster involves staff and students from a number of learning institutions in Kota Bahru and a total of 20 cases were detected here thus far. 

Merinding, in Labuan is the other cluster that involves learning institutions. Five positive cases were reported here. 

Noor Hisham said the Perusahaan LPK cluster traced at a factory in Kuala Muda, Kedah reported the most cases with 41 people testing positive for Covid-19. 

The Tenegang cluster in Kinabatangan Sabah is another cluster that involves a factory and 20 cases were reported here. 

The Bandar Sri cluster detected in Kuala Lumpur reported 12 cases, while the Putra Satu cluster traced in Putrajaya reported nine cases. 

The sole community-based cluster was traced in Kota Belud, Sabah, which involves a social event.

This cluster detected 11 coronavirus cases.

The total number of clusters in the country now stands at 1,322 with the eight new additions. 

A total of 394 clusters are active and 55 of them are still reporting new cases. 

Among the cluster reporting a high number of cases today are Jalan Faizal with 50 cases, followed by Chupak (47 cases) and Tanjung Genting (44 cases).

Noor Hisham said nine clusters ended today, taking the total number of clusters to conclude to 928. – March 25, 2021.
