MALAYSIA reported 1,384 new Covid-19 cases against 1,058 recoveries in the past 24 hours, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
This marks 18 straight days the country has recorded fewer than 2,000 new infections daily.
Noor Hisham said despite reporting more new infections today than recoveries, active cases are still below 15,000.
Active cases are now at 14,454, of which 148 are admitted in the intensive care unit, with 62 requiring respiratory support.
Of the new cases reported today, Noor Hisham said nine were imported, while the rest were local transmissions.
The bulk of new cases were reported in Selangor at 625 infections.
Johor recorded the second most cases for the day with 161, followed by Sarawak with 140.
Putrajaya and Perlis were the only states not to report any fresh infections in the past 24 hours.
Six deaths were reported today, taking the death toll to 1,244. All victims were Malaysians.
All the deceased were above the age of 55 and five of them had underlying medical conditions.
The sole victim, a female, who succumbed to the illness in Sarawak, had no past medical record and was brought in dead to Sibu Hospital. β March 23, 2021.
