SELANGOR Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali and PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin are expected to contest the Shah Alam and Hulu Langat parliamentary seats in the 14th general election, said a source.

The source said their names, along with the seats, were submitted during a Selangor Pakatan Harapan Election Committee meeting in Shah Alam today.

PAS had contested and won the two seats in the 2013 general election.

“PKR might contest the two seats, but the matter is being discussed and requires the agreement of all PH component parties,” said the source after the meeting.

Besides PKR, the other parties in PH are DAP, Bersatu and Amanah.

Azmin, who is also PKR deputy president, is now Gombak MP and Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman, while Zuraida is Ampang MP.

In GE13, Khalid Abdul Samad, who is now with Amanah, won the Shah Alam seat for PAS after beating Barisan Nasional’s Zulkifli Noordin by 10,939 votes, while the Islamist party’s Che Rosli Che Mat won the Hulu Langat seat after beating BN’s Adzhaliza Mohd Nor by 17,267 votes.

State PH Election Committee director Dr Zavier Jayakumar said it would be decided by the end of the month which of the opposition pact’s component parties would contest the 25 Selangor state seats now held by PAS and BN.

He said discussions were ongoing among the four parties on the distribution of seats.

State Bersatu election director Abdul Rashid Ansari said the party would not necessarily contest seats that were also contested by Umno, but would field candidates in any appropriate seat. – Bernama, January 3, 2018.
