Workplaces are bulk of today’s new Covid-19 clusters

Eight out of the 10 Covid-19 reported today are linked to the workplace. The 10 new clusters contributed to 216 infections. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, March 22, 2021.

HEALTH authorities detected 10 new Covid-19 clusters today, with eight of them linked to workplace transmissions, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. 

The director-general of health said two workplace clusters each were reported in Kuala Lumpur and Johor.

Labuan, Selangor, Pahang and Negri Sembilan have one workplace cluster each.

The two remaining clusters are community-based – one each in Sarawak and Johor. 

The 10 new clusters contributed a total of 216 infections today.

Of this, the workplace clusters contributed to 177 cases or 81.9% of the total.

One workplace cluster in Kuala Lumpur is the Jalan Usahawan construction site, which contributed 73 cases.

The other Kuala Lumpur cluster is Taman Tunku, which involves a restaurant and has reported seven cases so far. 

In Johor, the two workplace clusters are a factory in Batu 22 (13 cases) and an education centre in Jalan Tenteram (10 cases).

The other workplaces clusters are: Jalan Helang in Selangor (13 cases), Jalan Gambang in Pahang (24 cases), Industry Permata inNegri Sembilan (28 cases) and Jalan Kemajuan in Labuan (nine cases).

The two community-based clusters are named Jalan Rajang in Sarawak and Jalan Belimbang in Johor. 

The Jalan Rajang cluster involves a funeral and those infected are spread across the districts of Sarikei, Tg Manis and Kuching in Sarawak. To date, 29 people have been infected.

Jalan Belimbing in Johor is the other community-based cluster with 10 people infected so far.

The 10 new clusters today bring the total number of clusters in the country to 1,307, with 411 of them still active. 

A total of 64 clusters are still reporting new cases. – March 22, 2021.
