MALAYSIA logged 1,116 new Covid-19 cases today, taking the nation’s cumulative to 334,156, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
This would be the 17th straight day the country has reported fewer than 2,000 daily cases.
Noor Hisham said of the new cases, eight were imported while the rest were local transmissions.
“Of the local transmissions, 722 were Malaysians and 386 were foreigners, while for the eight imporedt cases, five involved locals and three foreigners,” Noor Hisham said in a statement today.
He said Selangor topped cases by state at 403 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 158 cases and Sarawak with 124 cases.
Perlis was the only state not to have recorded any new cases in the past 24 hours.
The top three states on overall cases remains unchanged with Selangor topping the chart with 112,309 cases, followed by Sabah (54,295) and Johor (40,100).
As for recoveries, he said 1,495 patients have recuperated and discharged from hospital.
Active cases are down to 14,134. A total of 156 patients are being treated in intensive care, with 60 requiring respiratory support.
Besides this, five deaths were reported today – four locals and one foreigner.
This takes the death toll to 1,238.
One death each were reported in Negri Sembilan, Sabah, Pahang, Penang and Kuala Lumpur.
All four local victims succumbed to the illness in the hospital, while the foreigner was brought in dead to Canselor Tuanku Muhriz Hospital in Cheras. – March 22, 2021.
