POLICE are investigating allegations that delegates at the Perak DAP elections failed to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOP) to prevent Covid-19 infection, after a row erupted between party members at the event.
Perak police chief, Mohd Faridalathrash Wahid said reports were lodged over the incident which took place at the Ipoh Convention Centre on Sunday.
“An investigation has been opened and the case is being investigated under section 22A of the Emergency Ordinance (Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases) (Amendment) Ordinance 2021,” he said in a statement today
He said police had spoken to the organiser.
“We found out there were 1,731 delegates at the convention, which was under the 4,500-capacity of the venue,” he said.
According to new reports, a fight broke out during the internal elections after party members led by M. Kulasegaran and Thomas Su said that the delegates were not being registered in a fair manner.
Su, who was accompanied by his team, was seen demanding an explanation from the election committee before walking out.
Shouts of “liar” also followed Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming’s entry into the convention hall. – March 19, 2021.
