Active Covid-19 cases continue to drop

ACTIVE Covid-19 cases in Malaysia declined to 16,279 with the country reporting more recoveries than new infections. 

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Malaysia reported 1,782 recoveries against 1,354 new cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the cumulative cases in the country to 323,763.

Malaysia has now reported fewer than 2,000 daily cases for the eighth straight day. 

Noor Hisham said of the new cases, a total of 1,340 cases were local transmissions, while 14 were imported. 

For the second day running, Selangor, Sarawak and Penang respectively occupied the top three spots of states with high number of daily cases. 

Selangor reported 577 cases, followed by Sarawak with 178 cases and Penang with 154 cases. 

Perlis was the only state today not to record any cases. 

There were no changes in position for states on overall cases with Selangor topping the chart with 108,996 cases, followed by Sabah (53,903) and Johor (39,086).

As of noon today, 158 patients were admitted in the intensive care unit, with 71 of them requiring respiratory support. 

A total of four deaths were reported today, taking the fatalities toll to 1,210. 

All four were locals.

Two deaths were reported in Kuala Lumpur, as well as one each in Selangor and Sarawak. 

All four victims were men and had underlying medical conditions. 

The youngest victim today, aged 27, had leukaemia, transverse myelitis and was bed-ridden. β€“ March 14, 2021.
