New Covid-19 cases below 2,000 for 6th straight day

The number of daily new Covid-19 cases continue to be below the 2,000 for the 6th straight day, with 1,575 detected in the past 24 hours. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Afif Abd Halim, March 12, 2021.

MALAYSIA continued to record daily Covid-19 cases below the 2,000 mark for the 6th straight day, with 1,575 new infections reported in the last 24 hours.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said recoveries once again outnumbered new cases today, with 2,042 patients having recuperated and discharged from hospitals.

This was the 16th consecutive day that recoveries have topped new infections.

Of the new cases, seven were imported while the rest were local transmissions.

Selangor was once again the biggest contributor of the daily cases with 751 infections followed by Sarawak (173) and Johor (135).

Selangor topped the overall tally with 107,868 cases, followed by Sabah (53,793) and Johor (38,864).

The number of active cases in the country has now dropped from 17,544 to 17,074 in the past 24 hours.

A total of 147 patients are in intensive care while 67 of them are intubated.

Three fatalities were recorded today, taking the death toll to 1,203. Two victims were Malaysians and the other was a foreigner.

All three victims, aged above 55 – had underlying medical conditions such as diabetes. 

One death each was recorded in the states of Sabah, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. – March 12, 2021.
