POLICE have yet to arrest any suspects linked to the “airbomb” incident outside a church in Petaling Jaya yesterday, adding that it was a fight between two groups of youths.

Petaling Jaya police chief Mohd Zani Che Din said witnesses told police that youths, who were on motorcycles, were seen chasing each other before airbombs were hurled in front of the Luther Church Centre in Jalan Utara, Petaling Jaya just after midnight.

“Initial investigations showed that the attack was not related to the church but merely a fight between the two groups.

“The airbombs thrown by one group exploded in front of the church while another exploded at the entrance of the building,” said Zani.

Three people were injured in the incident. They were a couple in their 40s and a Zimbabwean student.

“The husband, 48, sustained minor injuries on his back, and his wife, 45, had injuries to her face while the student suffered burns to his forehead,” said Zani.

The explosive was believed to be made from fragments of fireworks.

“We believe that it was not related to religious hate crime.

“We are trying to obtain CCTV (closed-circuit television camera) footages of the incident,” Zani said. – January 2, 2018.
