POLICE have yet to ascertain the motive behind the murder of Muslim activist Nik Khatijah Nik Mud, who was found dead at her home in Jalan Reko, Kajang in Selangor yesterday.
Police sources told The Malaysian Insight that a man detained to facilitate investigations has no close ties with the victim.
None of Nik Khatijah’s belongings was missing either.
Police also believe the case can be solved if they can find out who moved the Ikram activist’s car to a petrol station about 1km away from her house.
“The man is not her boyfriend. They are not in any sort of relationship, just colleagues.
“None of the victim’s belongings was missing therefore we have ruled out robbery or break-in,” said the source.
An electric cable was also found near her body.
“We believe it was used to strangle the victim,” he said.
An autopsy meanwhile, has confirmed that Nik Khatijah was strangled to death.
“There was only one injury mark on the neck,” said another source.
It was reported yesterday that police apprehended a 57-year-old man – the colleague who discovered Nik Khatijah’s body.
Kajang police chief Mohd Zaid Hassan said the victim was found at 9am with strangulation marks on her neck.
Police have classified the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Nik Khatijah was an activist for Muslim group Ikram and was the organisation’s advocacy department manager.
Police believe the case can be solved if they could identify the person who removed Nik Khatijah’s car.
A source informed The Malaysian Insight that the Nissan Almera owned by Nik Khatijah was found at a nearby petrol station.
The source said that police have retrieved the closed-circuit television footage at the petrol station but it was not focused on the parking lot.
“We are working to identify who parked the car at the petrol station. We believe if we can find this person, we can solve the case.”
The source added that Nik Khatijah’s car was found by the colleague who discovered her body.
“The colleague got worried after she did not turn up for work and when to the house to meet the house owner before asking for the keys. He found the body and lodged a police report.” – March 10, 2021.
