4 new covid-19 clusters, 3 linked to workplaces

The health ministry reports that four new Covid-19 clusters have detected in the country in the past 24 hours. They are located in Kuala Lumpur, Johor and Terengganu. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Hasnoor Hussain, March 8, 2021.

HEALTH authorities identified four new Covid-19 clusters with three linked to workplaces in the last 24 hours, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. 

The director-general of health said that of the three workplace clusters, two were detected in Johor and one in Kuala Lumpur.

He said the fourth cluster, detected in Terengganu, was a result of a community infection. 

Noor Hisham said 60 cases were detected in the clusters reported today, with the three workplace clusters accounting for 37 cases. 

He said that the community cluster in Terengganu – dubbed Bukit Bayas –reported the most cases among all other clusters. Twenty-three people have testing positive so far. 

Although detected in Terengganu, he said this cluster is spread over the districts of Johor Bahru in Johor and Petaling in Selangor. 

Noor Hisham said the two workplace clusters reported in Johor involved a factory and both were detected in the Kulai district. 

He said the Cyber 72 cluster reported 18 cases, while the i-Park Tiga cluster  had eight positive cases. 

The Jalan Loke Yew cluster, detected in the Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, was the final workplace cluster reported today. 

Noor Hisham said this cluster involving a supermarket reported 11 cases. 

He said 1,203 clusters have been reported in the country so far, including the four new detected today. 

Of them, he said 467 clusters are active, with 62 of them are still reporting new daily cases. 

He said clusters reporting the most numbers of cases today are Industri Sg Gadut with 51 cases, followed by Industri Subang (36) and Kebun Baru (22).

He added that 736 clusters have ended in the country, including nine today. – March 8, 2021.
