PAS today said it wants to pursue ties with both Umno and Bersatu although the two parties will not be in the same camp for the next general election.

Secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said his party is working on strengthening Muafakat Nasional, which it is in with Umno, and defending Perikatan Nasional in which it is with Bersatu, at all levels.

At the same time, he said, PAS rejects working with Pakatan Harapan for now and in the future.

“PAS is committed to strengthening the three-way relationship involving the three main Malay parties of Umno, Bersatu and PAS, along with other partners,” he said in a statement.

The party also rejects attempts by any party to derail the Malay/Muslim unity forged by the three parties, he said.

“We also reject any new alignment to work with Pakatan Harapan and its allies.”

PAS will continue with its agenda to strengthen the Malay/Muslim community after its latest meeting with Bersatu leaders, including president Muhyiddin Yassin on Thursday.

Yesterday, Umno said it had informed Bersatu of its decision not to work with it in GE15.

Bersatu said it would decide with its PN allies on the next step.

Umno also called on the prime minister to advise the Agong to call for a parliamentary sitting soon. – March 5, 2021.
